Pacemaker Implantation for the Cardiologist

Course Description: An advanced electrophysiology program featuring didactic and proctored hands on cases. Students will learn how to successfully identify appropriate patients for pacemaker therapy and gain experience with the insertion, management, and follow-up of pacemakers. Satisfactory completion results in a certificate of cases to be applied to the case requirements of the ACC/HRS. Students will receive protocols, equipment lists, and physician dictation of cases included during course.

Course Length: Three day course

Enrollment: 2 student maximum per course

Faculty: Gregory Jones, MD, FACC

Target Audience: Cardiologists seeking to acquire pacemaker implantation skills and improve patient management.

Location: Cardiovascular Associates & Holston Valley Medical Center

Tuition: $5,000

ICD Implantation for the Non-Electrophysiology Cardiologist or Surgeon

Course Description: An advanced electrophysiology program featuring didactic and proctored hands on cases. Students will learn how to successfully identify appropriate patients for ICD therapy, how to implant ICD devices, and understand basic techniques for interrogation, programming, and surveillance of ICDs. Didactic content on patient selection, preparation, post implant recovery, and patient education will be provided. Cases will count toward competency requirements of the ACC/HRS. Students will receive protocols, equipment lists, and physician dictation of cases included during course.

Course Length: Three day course

Enrollment: 2 student maximum per course

Faculty: Gregory Jones, MD, FACC or Arun Rao, MD, FACC

Target Audience: Foreign national cardiologists and surgeons seeking to acquire ICD implantation skills and improve patient management.

Location: Cardiovascular Associates & Holston Valley Medical Center

Tuition: $5,000

Advanced Atrial Fibrillation Program

Course Description: An advanced electrophysiology program featuring didactic and proctored hands on cases. Students will receive the latest pharmaceutical protocols, state-of-the-art mapping, ablation, pacing, and surgical therapies as well as training on how to best manage follow-up visits. Students will receive protocols, equipment lists, and physician dictation of cases included during course.

Course Length: Two day course

Enrollment: 2 student maximum per course

Faculty: Gregory Jones, MD, FACC

Target Audience: Electrophysiologists and Cardiologists seeking to improve patient management and intervention skills for patients with atrial fibrillation.

Location: Cardiovascular Associates & Holston Valley Medical Center

Tuition: $5,000

Laser Lead Extraction Course

Course Description: An advanced electrophysiology program featuring didactic content and appropriate case studies. Participants will learn selection criteria for extraction sheaths, extraction techniques, and the appropriate tools for lead extraction. Students will be exposed to case studies to ensure competence in lead extraction technique and equipment selection. Students will receive protocols, equipment lists, and physician dictation of cases included during course.

Course Length: One day course

Enrollment: 10 student maximum per course

Faculty: Gregory Jones, MD, FACC

Target Audience: Electrophysiologists and Cardiologists seeking to improve patient management and intervention skills for patients with implanted defibrillators.

Location: Cardiovascular Associates

Tuition: $1,500

Developing a Comprehensive EP Device Follow-up Clinic

Course Description: This course is designed for practice administrators, NP’s/Pa’s, RN’s and technical staff who will be involved in the initial set up and maintenance of a pacemaker/ICD device follow up clinic. The training program will explore the advantages of having a device follow up clinic as well as new technologies designed to aid in this undertaking. In addition, time will be devoted to staffing, equipment requirements, billing, scheduling and development of follow up protocols. Course attendees will attain a basic knowledge of the requirements for a successful in-office as well as remote device follow up clinic.

Course Length: Two day course

Enrollment: 3 students per course

Faculty: Janet Ford, MSN, APRN-BC, Certified Device Specialist

Target Audience: Non-physician practitioners and administrators seeking to develop a successful device follow-up clinic.

Location: Cardiovascular Associates electrophysiology clinic

Tuition: $5,000

Advanced Imaging- CT Angiography for Electrophysiology Planning

Course Description: A high volume, CT angiography course featuring didactic and proctored hands on cases related specifically to electrophysiology mapping and planning for atrial fibrillation ablation procedures and bi ventricular pacemaker implants. Satisfactory completion results in a certificate of cases that can be applied to case requirements of the ACCF/AHA (50 performed cases and 150 interpreted cases). Students will receive protocols, equipment lists, and physician dictation of cases included during course.

Course Length: Two day course

Enrollment: 10 student maximum per course

Faculty: Gerald Blackwell, MD, FACC, (Level 3 ACCF/AHA CT trained), Gregory Jones, MD, FACC

Target Audience: Cardiologists and electrophysiologists seeking to acquire advanced CT imaging training to assist with cardiac mapping for EP planning.

Location: Cardiovascular Associates

Tuition: $3,500
